Micropiles are deep foundation elements constructed using high-strength, small-diameter steel casing and/or threaded bar, and high-strength cement grout. Capacities vary depending on the micropile size and subsurface profile. Allowable micropile capacities in excess of 1,000 tons have been achieved. Recent advances in micropile construction coupled with a broader acceptance by engineers have made the micropile solution feasible where access, environmental factors, or subsurface conditions precluded the use of traditional methods.
