Air Quality Control Solutions Drive Cleaner Coal-Fired Plants

In addressing the regulatory environment for coal-fired power plants, utilities evaluate a range of options, including retrofit air quality control systems (AQCS), fuel blending or switching, natural gas co-firing or conversion, plant de-rate or retirements and other options. Utilities are faced with several key air quality regulations including Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) and Regional Haze Rule with Best Available Retrofit Technology (BART) issues from federal policy and/or state-mandated requirements. To operate successfully within the current regulatory environment, there is a wide range of AQCS technologies available.
