Solar Steam Enhanced Oil Recovery Heats Up in Oman

The first solar Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) plant is located in Southern Oman, about 100 miles from the nearest community, with nothing but sand, camels and the occasional oil field construction camp dotting the landscape. Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), a major E&P company in the Sultanate of Oman, contracted GlassPoint to construct a solar steam generation plant to produce steam, which is injected into the ground under high pressure to loosen and thin the oil deposits to recover more oil from heavy oilfield reserves.
