Abba G. Lichtenstein, 92, a noted bridge engineer who helped develop key national load-rating and inspection standards and techniques and who was an expert in repair of historic spans and related structures, died on March 13 in Washington, D.C., his family confirms. Lichtenstein was founder and former president of A.G. Lichteinstein & Associates, a New Jersey consulting firm, and later joined structural engineer McMullan & Associates Inc., Reston, Va., as director of canals and bridges. His work, particularly in restoring the Roebling Aqueduct bridge in Pennsylvania, won numerous awards; his engineering alma mater, Ohio State University, named a chair in infrastructure in his honor.
