Single-family housing starts are expected to rise 7.1 %, to 840,000, this year, after jumping 10.1 % during the previous year, according to the National Association of Home Builders. That growth rate should continue with another 7.5% gain in 2018, predicts Michael Neal, NAHB assistant vice president. NAHB's forecast for multifamily housing starts is not as optimistic. Neal expects that market to continue to decline another 9.4% this year, after slipping 0.5% last year. NAHB predicts that these drops will be followed by another 1.7% drop in 2018.
