AUTODESK'S LATEST BUY WOULD EXTEND ITS CONSTRUCTION REACH

Design software giant Autodesk is set to close in January its third acquisition in the past year to build out a construction support workflow system to extend the reach of its BIM 360, Revit and AutoCAD products. The firm said it would buy San Francisco start-up Build-ingConnected, founded in 2012, in a $275-million deal to add bid management, risk analysis and other preconstruction tools as well as a digital network of 700,000 construction professionals to help owners and general contractors find and hire qualified subs and vendors. Autodesk closed last month on an $875-million purchase of Plan-Grid, a mobile platform to sync and deliver construction documents to field crews; last July, it bought Assemble Systems, an SaaS platform to host and augment BIM models to support estimating, bidding, scheduling, project management and financials. CEO Andrew Anagnost said Autodesk wants to link construction processes by digitizing and automating workflows.
