GeoStabilization International would like to address the safety related issues regarding the "dust" shown in the recent photo contest issue cover of ENR (1/21-28), which was the subject of the editorial commentary in the same issue. During the drilling process shown in the photo, our driller and all crew members were utilizing respirators. They also were employing a water spray to suppress the "dust," which actually is drill particulate and the water spray. Our company employs a full-time, dedicated safety team, maintains a written safety plan, and trains and re-trains all em-I ployees in the 1 most current industry practices. We have worked hard to earn an excellent safety record, as demonstrated by our receiving safety awards for the past four years, and by our workers' compensation experience modifier (0.76, compared to the industry standard of 1). All this translates into the knowledge that GeoStabilization is one of the safest geotechnical contractors in the industry.
