U.S. Army Engineers as Overseas Contractors: Cultural and Ethical Considerations

Culture forms the foundation for ethical behavior and determines what behavior is considered ethical and what is considered unethical. Potential ethical conflicts arise simply from the different values inherent across cultures. Cultural differences in international engineering projects cannot be avoided or ignored. A better understanding of influential cultural factors will help reduce and manage conflicts in international construction projects. Recognizing and sensibly manipulating cultural differences could allow improvements in the efficiency and profitability of international projects.
