ENGINEERS SUPPORT U.S. BORDER PATROL

From 4 May to 28 June 2011, the 2d Platoon of the 15th Engineer Company (Horizontal) completed a 1.5-mile section of road west of Nogales, Arizona, as part of efforts by Joint Task Force-North (JTF-N) to enhance border security. JTF-N is a federal interagency program that coordinates efforts between agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense. The U.S. Border Patrol is part of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security. The Department of Defense supplies military units for nonpolicing ventures in support of the Border Patrol. This article focuses on the interactions that the platoon had with various civilian and military personnel and how they contributed to the stress and relief of the 2-month mission.
