Wind energy has the fastest growing rate in the alternative energy sources with 92% learning curve value in the world. At the end of the 2008, global installed wind power reached 121000 MW. Electricity consumption level of Turkey increase rapidly year by year. Annual growth rate of electricity demand in Turkey is expected between 6.3% and 8.4% from 2009 to 2016. Turkey has one of the biggest wind energy potential in Europe. Turkey wind energy potential is 47849 MW and 15000 MW of this potential is the current wind energy target of Turkey until 2015. To reach this installed power target in wind energy area, grid connection characteristics is one of the key parameter for wind energy investments. Although large interconnected electricity systems have a number of robust defenses against the unexpected changes in the balance between demand and generation, short circuit power of wind turbine, wind forecasting and back up power should be analyzed and evaluated detailed against the variability of wind power. The main goals of this study are that, giving the basics of wind turbine grid connection, explaining the grid connection characteristics of wind energy plant in Turkey finally presenting suggestions which are related to Turkey grid connection system for increasing wind power installed capacity.
