Biometrics smart cards to replace ration cards in AP

The Andhra Pradesh state government has decided to provide biometrics smart cards to replace the current ration cards for the distribution of subsidised rice through Public Distribution System (PDS). The main objective is to ensure that there are no irregularities at all in implementation of Re. 1 per kg rice scheme. The state government has recently launched a pilot project for this purpose in three districts - Anantapur, East Godavari and Ranga Reddy districts.
