Mobile Computing Options Heighten Government Alarm

Earlier this month at the E-Gov conference in Washington, D.C., federal government workers in the audience at a session led by Mark Bregman, general manager of the IBM Pervasive Computing Division, were told of fairly short-term predictions that in some parts of the world, more people will access the Internet through a handheld device than through a personal computer (necessarily tethered to a power cord). This being the reality, he noted, it also falls to the governments to make their services accessible through all the means that citizens will find to contact the various government agencies.
