Alcatel, Fujitsu Venture Targets '3G' Mobile Systems

Alcatel SA of France and Japan's Fujitsu Ltd. last week announced plans to form a joint venture to develop and manufacture third-generation (3G) mobile communications network systems. Alcatel will own 66 percent of the venture, and Fujitsu will own the rest. The companies said they expect to begin marketing a 3G system in the first half of 2001.
