摘要

The estimation of the service life of embankments constructed on soft soil is a challenging task for even experienced geotechnical engineers. Factor of Safety (FOS) is usually applied to allow for uncertainty. A high Factor of Safety normally implies high cost, which is undesired. Many authors have recommended different types of equations based on Limit Equilibrium procedures for estimating the amount of reinforcement required achieving specific FOS, but the results are widely different. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate how critical slip centre parameters can influence the behaviour of reinforced embankment with time. A computer program GEO4/5 was used to analyse the behaviour of critical slip circle parameters for both reinforced and unreinforced slopes supported by soft ground
