The maintenance and development of information-documentation professionals' skills has always constituted one of the major objectives of L'association des professionels de I'information et de la documentation (the Association of Professionals of Information-Documentation (ADBS)). The hundred different and complementary training courses on information management proposed in 2007 were the result of a thorough revision, taking into account the most recent professional developments, requests from professionals and current research data. ADBS also seized upon the 2004 modifications to the law on continuous vocational training, by introducing individualized training courses to strengthen its portfolio and to adapt new teaching formats. Distance-based training courses since 2006 have been organized in partnership with the national Academy of Arts and Trades and with the national Institute of Documentation Techniques. The next objective is to personalize training activities with the creation of workshops on very specific topics directly connected to the problems of trainees. Another objective is to work more closely with other associations in the sector such as the Association of Teacher-librarians to offer common training programs. To analyze the evolution of the information professions in order to follow emerging needs for continuous training, ADBS relies on sector-based and regional groups, and on its commissions. The training commission in particular has the mission of watching the market, its structure and its quality. It is currently carrying out a national survey of university training programs, which will then be available on its website.
