SealedMedia: Pulling the Plug on Information Leaks

What do the residents of Bhopal, India have in common with Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson? Probably not much, but they do share one experience: They were the victims of leaks. Whether those leaks are chemical ― as was the case when a Union Carbide pesticide plant leaked methyl isocyanate into the air on December 2, 1984, killing and injuring tens of thousands of Bhopal residents ― or information-based ― as occurred when a still-unidentified member of the Bush Administration last year disclosed the identity of an undercover CIA agent to the media, allegedly in retaliation for the anti-war sentiments of her husband ― the results can be devastating. In a non-life-threatening ― but equally serious ― business context, leaks of mission-critical data or proprietary product information can threaten the very livelihood of a company. It's a problem that Los Gatos, California-based document security software developer SealedMedia describes as "digital leakage."
