Ten years ago, The Economist looked at how the educational background of the people in 100 top jobs in Britain had changed over 20 years. We found that almost the same number of people had been to public school (code for the smart private establishments which make up 450 of Britain's 4,300 secondary schools) and Oxford or Cambridge as in 1972. Now the results are rather different (see table).
