The Kosovar dream was achieved on February 17, 2008, when, with the support of the United States, key members of the European Union and many other countries around the world, the Republic of Kosovo was declared a sovereign nation and took its rightful place among the free countries of the world. Kosovo's first year as an independent nation has been magnificent; a year of freedom and democracy; a year of peace, unity, and positive economic developments.rnAlready, fifty-four nations have formally recognized Kosovo, including major powers representing two-thirds of the world's economic power and wealth. Many more recognitions are expected in the coming months.
