Hundred-metre dash

Takashi Murakami's new show opens with a six-metre inflatable por trait of the artist as a cross-legged Buddha with dirty feet, hairy legs and a scarred shin, his hand stretched out in welcome. The effect is overpowering, dwarfing visi tors as they enter. By the show's tenth and final room, they are stepping on his face, the floor a wall-to-wall image of his like ness. This exhibition, which opened on February 9th in the grounds of the Muse um of Islamic Art in Doha, is called "Mura kami-Ego".
