Tuas Phase 1 construction under way

Stringent environmental conditions are in place as the Singapore Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) begins an ambitious six-year project to build a 20-berth container terminal with an annual capacity of 20 million teu. MPA awarded the Phase 1 contract, worth USD1.8 billion, to a joint venture between DEME subsidiary Dredging International Asia Pacific and South Korean group Daelim Industrial. The scope of work includes building an 8.6 km quay wall, dredging the fairway and basins, and reclaiming 294 ha of new land using 80 million m~3 of material. MPA has laid down strict environmental requirements for all construction activities, which will be monitored and supervised by an independent environmental specialist.
