The Vietnamese-born, Danish-naturalised artist Danh Vo has an incredible exhibition on at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, under curator Angeline Scherf. The artist seems to have taken possession of the large space, deploying his personal visual and literary micro-conflict. Fragments of a life-size copper replica of the Statue of Liberty are flanked by a good amount of objects that are the fruit of Danh Vo's skilful incursions and purchases at auctions. How could la Ville Lumiere go without the large chandeliers that once illuminated the rooms of the former Hotel Majestic on Avenue Kléber, where the Paris Peace Accords between the us and Vietnam were signed in January 1973? The artist bought them in 2009 as silent witnesses to hostilities that continued until 1975.
