Linda Fregni Nagler

For one show within the show of "The Encyclopedic Palace", Massimiliano Gioni's Biennale, the photographer Cindy Sherman invited Linda Fregni Nagler to exhibit a large number of pictures called The Hidden Mother. Almost one thousand photos are arranged in a display case nine metres by one metre and a half that the artist had made specifically for the exhibition. The images are of women, visible yet hidden, erased so that the focus is on another subject, mostly children, posing with their mother's "invisible" help. The photos reveal, at least in part, the role of women in society during the 19th and 20th centuries.
