There are moments in history when an innovation-technological, social, political, economic-transforms the basic meaning of concepts that we've metabolised throughout centuries of culture, to the point we take them for granted. Ownership is one of these: if one purchases a physical object, such as a chair, one expects to be able to do with it as one pleases. But what if technology were to unlock the door to a much more nuanced, stratified and complex understanding of ownership, even for physical, tangible objects?
