The old Europe today seems to have come to a halt, unble to decide its future. Bewildered by the latest world scenarios, it has given up looking to them for what might be a possible role of its own. Having failed to work out strategies in response to the deep economic and financial crisis that we are going through, it has not come up with any which, on the strength of its long history, might fit our time and the people who live in it. As a result, it has in reality given up looking for comprehensive visions with the capacity to imagine, and hence to prefigure for mankind today, a life better suited to the expectations and means at our disposal.
