In the world today there are an estimated 214 million international, and 740 million internal, migrants. In addition, there are approximately 74 million people who have been forcibly displaced - including around 16 million refugees who have crossed international borders, and at least 41 million people internally displaced within their own countries (World Disasters Report, p. 6).
