摘要

As per their natural characteristics, particularly in urban spaces, water elements denote design ele-ments that add significant compliments to environ-mental landscaping. They are effective in terms of increasing the quality of urban space by supporting perceived and actual comfort within their surround-ings. First and foremost, this study researched what sort of water elements are preferred in terms of nat-ural/geometric forms, fixed/transitive forms, light/dark colored ground, angled/curvilinear forms and natural/colored lighting. Furthermore, this study attempts to examine other preferences, such as water elements and type of water jet, as well as their func-tions and water elements, including structural ele-ments incorporated within water elements. In order to measure whether there is any difference in users'perception regarding water elements, a survey with photos was conducted with 750 people in five differ-ent squares around Istanbul province. The SPSSpro-gram was utilized in order to analyze the results. It was examined whether there was a difference in the preferences and perceptions of those who partici-pated to the survey according to the differences in their socio-demographic characteristics at the analy-sis stage. As aresult, it was determined users'gender differences mainly affected the preferences and per-ceptions in question.
