During the construction of elderly apartments, the release of formaldehyde concentration has at- tracted more and more attention. Excessive formal- dehyde concentration has a serious impact on the liv- ing environment of the elderly and is not conducive to the health of the elderly. Therefore, more and more attention has been paid to the design and use of green building materials. In response to this prob- lem, this article analyzes the current four major cat- egories of green building materials and summarizesthe formaldehyde detection method for green senior housing and the flow chart of indoor formaldehyde testing. Through experimental research, the compar- ative analysis of the formaldehyde emission after tra ditional decoration and green decoration proves that the measured formaldehyde concentration after the completion of the traditional decoration apartment is seriously exceeding the standard. The minimum ex- ceeding multiple of the traditional material decora- tion apartment used in the experiment is 1.36, and the highest multiple of exceeding the standard is3.24, which has an adverse impact on the environ- ment and human health. The formaldehyde concen- tration of the apartment decorated with green build- ing materials has reached the standard that can be di- rectly admitted. Through the analysis of the changein formaldehyde concentration in elderly apartments after 60 days of natural ventilation, it is concluded that the formaldehyde concentration in apartmentsdecorated with traditional building materials and apartments decorated with green building materials have both experienced a process of first increasing and then decreasing. For apartments decorated with green materials, the formaldehyde concentration falls below the qualified standard after 30 days, meeting the requirements of environmental protec- tion and safety, and providing a reference for the ac- commodation arrangements after the completion of the decoration of elderly apartments.
