CAPE review of digital Century Series strategy projects higher cost

A new assessment of the Air Force's digital Century Series acquisition strategy from the Pentagon's cost assessment and program evaluation office drew different conclusions than the service's separate business case analysis, particularly in the area of cost. Lt. Gen. Duke Richardson, the Air Force's top military acquisition official, told reporters today CAPE identified higher costs associated with using a digital Century Series strategy than what the Air Force's BCA found. The Air Force is considering applying a digital Century Series approach to the Next-Generation Air Dominance program to rapidly field and upgrade new fighter aircraft using agile software development, open systems architecture and digital engineering.
