ISO Parshall flume or ASTM (US) Parshall flume – clarifying the confusion around standards for flow measurement and monitoring

The Parshall flume is named for its principal developer, Dr Ralph L Parshall, who in 1915, while working as a Research Engineer for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), noted practical difficulties with stream measurements. In 1922, under the title The Improved Venturi Flume, he made known his studies in a publication from the Colorado Agricultural College. The flume became known as the Parshall flume.
