Effect of ultrasound-guided continuous erector spinae plane block on severe post-herpetic neuralgia in adolescent without skin rash

Herpes Zoster (HZ) is a rare and painful viral condition, and it is typically seen in old patients. In younger age tends to be less severe and benign.1 HZ is an infection caused by the reactivation of dormant VaricellaZoster Virus (VZV) in the sensory ganglia after primary infection, occurring usually during childhood.2 The most common complication of HZ is postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), which can cause long-lasting pain and disability.3 It is characterized by skin manifestations which resolve spontaneously. We described our successful experience of the ultrasound-guided continuous erector spinae plane block (ESPB),a recently paravertebral fascial plane block,4 in an adolescent that presented pain in the right thoracic and shoulder region and paresthesia on the right upper without vesicular rash due to uncommon acute Herpes-Zoster Virus (HZV) infection in this age.
