Making the world global: an imperial allegory

摘要

Isaac Kamola has written a topical, well-sourced, and intelligibly composed book on a significant development in world politics: the rise of 'the global' as a focus of both politics and knowledge production in the academy. The book is articulated around many concerns, of which I retain three. The first, appearing in the form of a question, is what has globalization done for political, economic, and cultural entities around the world? The second centers around the effects of the articulation of the globalization discourse as the site of production of globalization. This is related to a third concern that is centered around the paradox that the discourse of the coming globalization is produced in already globalized institutional contexts, including the academy, business, and philanthropy.
