Vehicle simulators enable the emulation of real-world physical models and allow researchers to gain a better understanding of the user’s behavior and vehicle dynamics. Currently, self-driving cars are increasingly becoming a popular researched topic, but the development of such cars is expensive. A cost-effective way to understand driver’s behavior in a self-driving car is with the use of a driving simulator. This paper presents an application that controls a three-degree-of-freedom motion platform of a driving simulator. The application integrates different input sources of a real vehicle mapped in a virtual environment. Evaluation of the implemented solution shows that the motion platform’s behavior was consistent with the behavior of the virtual car in the virtual environment.
