The onion ( Allium fistulosum L.) is an important crop in Venezuela, however there is little research on the fungal diseases that attack it, therefore, in this investigation, the phytopathogenic fungi present in the crop were identified in growing areas of the Jesús Enrique Lossada and Maracaibo municipalities of the Zulia state. Whole plants with symptoms of possible fungal diseases were sampled. In the Microbiology and Phytopathology laboratory of the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Zulia, the fungi were isolated and purified. The genera Alternaria , Cladosporium , Colletotrichum , Curvularia , Fusarium, Helminthosporium , Paecilomyces , Phoma , Stemphylium and Verticillium were identified. Being of greater interest Alternaria , Phoma and Stemphylium , for being reported as causing significant diseases in onion cultivation.
