Infertilidade feminina: aspectos multidimensionais e a percep??o da mulher/ Female Infertility: multidimensional aspects and the woman's perception

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines infertility as an inability for pregnancy to occur after at least one year of regular sexual activity without the use of contraceptive methods. The main objective is to understand the perception of women about the multidimensional aspects of their lives in the face of infertility, performing a cross-sectional study, with a qualitative and descriptive approach with nine women diagnosed with infertility in the municipalities of Pelotas and Cangu?u - RS. The sample was for convenience; Bardin's content analysis (2016) was used to analyze the information. The interviews were conducted only once, recorded and later transcribed to define the coding units and categories of the study. The results showed the reflexes that infertility brings in the life of the woman; from changes in their occupational performance, to emotional reactions due to feelings of guilt and charges from others. Despite the difficulties, women find comfort in their partners, although there are not always positive influences on the couple's relationship and difficulties also in their own treatment. Women were determined to continue in the search for motherhood and happy when this desire is conceived, giving new meaning in their lives. The study concluded that infertility affects multiple aspects of women's lives, triggering situations of suffering and anguish, being paramount to listening and assisting this population.
