In Table 2, column 1, the strain names TA100 and TA98 should be changed to TA98 and TA100, respectively.In the first paragraph of the Results section, the sentence “In the absence of S9, the base-substitution mutagenic potency (TA100) ofthe SRM 2975 EOM was 3× greater than that of the A-EOM” should be: “In the absence of S9, the base-substitution mutagenic potency(TA100) of the A-EOM was 3× greater than that of the SRM 2975 EOM.” In addition, the sentence “In the absence of S9, the rankingsof the mutagenic potencies among the strains, with the exception of TA100, were similar for the two EOM samples (Table 3)” shouldbe: “In the absence of S9, the rankings of the mutagenic potencies among the strains were similar for the two EOM samples (Table 3).”In Table 3, the value for Strain TA100–9 under Rev=lg EOM, SRM 2975 should be 26.2 instead of 262.0; in addition, the value forStrain TA100–9 under Rev=lg particle, SRM 2975 should be 0.5 instead of 5.2.Finally, in the first paragraph of the Discussion section, the sentence “With regard to the whole, unfractionated SRM 2975 EOM, themutagenic potency ranking in the absence of S9 among the strains obtained here was similar to that obtained previously by Hughes et al.(1997) except that our sample ranked as more potent in TA100 than that of Hughes et al. (1997)” should be: “With regard to the whole,unfractionated SRM 2975 EOM, the mutagenic potency ranking in the absence of S9 among the strains obtained here was similar tothat obtained previously by Hughes et al. (1997), except that our sample ranked as less potent in TA100 than that of Hughes et al.(1997).”The authors believe that all errors were typographical mistakes introduced during manuscript preparation.All coauthors have approved this erratum except Dr. Kobayashi, who could not be contacted.The authors apologize for the errors.
