摘要

Sulfation pathways include the attachment of asulfate group to many different biomolecules.At the SUPA meeting, the dynamic regulationof steroid hormones was primarily discussed.Talks about chemico-synthetic innovationssuch as sulfated reference compounds andenabling analytical technologies certainlywere among the most exciting new researchpresented. Otherwise the ‘hidden star’ of themeeting was steroid sulfatase (STS) and specificSTS inhibitors are on the rise as a research tool.It is exciting times for research into sulfationpathways as this conference was testament ofa growing and interdisciplinary communitywhere inputs from plant systems, syntheticchemists and analytical ones help drivinginnovation. The support from the BiochemicalSociety was used to endow a prize for the bestshort talk to Anna-Katharina Hankele (ETHZurich) and to support our internationalspeaker Abby Collier (UBC Vancouver).The venue was ideal for many in-depthdiscussions that will certainly have sparkedfuture collaboration.
