In this article we describe some methods for automatic cortex layers decomposition and cortex cell registration. For Brodmann’s layers decomposition, we use special density function calculation. Cell registration process consists of two steps: cell center detection and cell segmentation. To detect cell centers, we use an algorithm based on morphological operations. For cell segmentation, we use the inner ray casting method involving the calculation of intersections with Canny edges. We also propose a parallel version of our methods. Parallel implementation was developed using OpenMP. Performance characteristics of the implementation are also presented.
