Behavioural Problems of Children Exposed to Domestic Violence in Rural Villages: A Micro Social Work Inquiry in Piranpattru Village at Chankanai Divisional Secretariat, Jaffna, Sri Lanka

Domestic violence is globally perceived as a health and social problem in a massive scale. Although women are the direct victims there are hidden sufferers too, the small children. It is widely observed that the detrimental impact of violence on children is still remains un-addressed in most of the developing, traditional societies/countries including Sri Lanka, especially in remote villages like Piranpattu. Hence, in the midst of this scenario, there is a felt need to recognize the impacts and dimensions of domestic violence related to children who expose to domestic violence and sensitize the public on this unrevealed crucial issue. In order to bridge this miserable lacuna, a field survey was undertaken in Piranpattu area, which is a typical rural village located at Chankanai Divisional Secretariat in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. The main objective of this study is to identify the major behavioural problems of the children who are exposing to domestic violence.Finally the study pr ved that there are significant destructive changes in the behaviors of the children who expose to violence at home. The some of the major problematic behaviors identified were being stubborn, irritable, arguing, emotional numbness and crying.
