Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions and Student's Ability to Develop an Entrepreneurial Spirit

As corporate entrepreneurship plays an important role in the process of strategic renewal of existing firms, universities are the means through which students can develop their innovative and entrepreneurial spirit. But there are many influences and factors that can help or hinder this process, cultural dimensions having an impact on student's ability to develop their entrepreneurial spirit. Based on these considerations we conducted a survey among students from “Petru Maior” University, Faculty of Economics, Law and Administrative Sciences, Tirgu-Mures, Romania, regarding the four cultural dimensions developed by Geert Hofstede. This study tests the proposition that Romanian students are collectivism and femininity-oriented, belong to a high power distance culture and try to avoid uncertainty, dimensions that hinder the entrepreneurial spirit development.
