A study of the factors influencing tuberculosis treatment outcomes in HIV-TB co-infected patients in an urban district of South India

Background: The outcome of tuberculosis (TB) treatment is influenced by Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection, and is known to be less successful when compared to HIV uninfected. A clear picture of the treatment-outcomes with the current strategies in India i.e. Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program(RNTCP)’s Directly observed treatment short course(DOTS) & National AIDS Control Program(NACP)’s ART, & the factors that influence such outcomes could prove useful in improving existing programs.
