TheissuecoversselectedpaperspresentedduringtheJointEventoftwoInternationalCyclicConferences:MicroTherm–MicrotechnologyandThermalProblemsinElectronicsandSENM–SmartEngineeringofNewMaterials.TheDuoconferencewasheldinLodz,Polandon23-25June2015.Itgatheredalmost200participantsfrom20countries.MicroThermisanInternationalConferenceonMicrotechnologyandThermalProblemsinElectronicsthatisorganisedeverytwoyears,since1996.Thesuccessofthefirstseminardevotedtothermalmanagementaspects,andthesuccessiveconferenceshaveledustotheeleventhedition.Sincethefirstmeeting,thescopeoftheConferencehasexpanded,followingtheprogressofelectronics.Now,itcoverssubjectsconnectedwithextremetemperature,electronics,sensorsandmeasurementtechniques,modelling,simulation,wideband-gapmaterials,packagingandreliability,renewableenergysourcesandphotonicswithspecialemphasisonmicroelectronictechnologies.ThetraditionofSENMdatesbackto1985whentheFirstInternationalConferenceonDiamondCrystallizationunderReducedPressurewasheldinJab?onna,Poland.Sincethen,theConferenceisorganisedregularlyeveryfiveyears.Fromtheearlybeginningthemainaimofthiseventwasthecreationofaninternationalforumofscientistsforthepresentationofthenewestachievementsandinvestigationresultsinvacuumandplasmatechniques,synthesis,characterisationandapplicationofdiamond,itsderivativesandotherwidebandgapmaterials.Overtime,thescopeoftheconferencehasexpandedtoincludenanomaterials,biomaterialsandnewfunctionalmaterials,intherangeofproduction,designandoptimisationofthesynthesisandmodificationtechnologies.Traditionally,theprogrammeofMicroTherm'2015andSENM'2015iscomprisedofinvitedtalksandregularsessionsintheformofplanardiscussionsandposterpresentations,whichalsoincludeaStudents'Session.Thelattergaveanopportunityforstudentsandyoungresearcherstopresenttheirfirstachievementsinthefieldofscience.NextJointEventcombiningMicroThermandSENMConferencesisgoingtobeheldinJune2017,traditionallyinLodz–beautiful,post-industrialcitylocatedinthecentreofPoland.Forfurtherdetails,pleaseseetheDuoconferencewebsitewww.semtherm.eu.Please,feelinvited.EwaRajandKatarzynaZnajdekEditors..
