HighaltitudecloudshavebeenobservedintheMartianatmosphere.However,theirpropertiesstillremaintobecharacterized.MarsClimateSounder(MCS)aboardMarsReconnaissanceOrbiter(MRO)isaninstrumentthatmeasuresradiancesinthethermalinfrared,bothinlimbandnadirviews.Itallowsustoretrieveverticalprofilesofradiance,temperatureandaerosols.UsingtheMCSdataandradiativetransfermodelcoupledwithanautomatedinversionroutine,wecaninvestigatethechemicalcompositionofthehighaltitudeclouds.Wewillpresentthefirstresultsonthepropertiesoftheclouds.CO2iceisthebestcandidatetobethemaincomponentofsomehighaltitudecloudsduetothemostsimilarspectralvariationcomparedtowatericeordust,inagreementwithpreviousstudies.UsingcloudcompositionofcontaminatedCO2ice(dustcoresurroundedbyCO2ice)mightimprovethefittingresult,butfurtherstudyisneeded...
