摘要

For many, the topic of death and dying is uncomfortable and, until now, the role of the physiotherapist in this area has not beenclearly articulated. This comprehensive book is an essential firsttext for understanding the meaning and value of care delivered byphysiotherapists for people at the end of life. In the first chapter, contributing author Nigel Sykes emphasises the important rolethat physiotherapists play in enabling people ‘to live well untilthey die’; this theme is explored throughout, providing a detailedframework for interventions in both physical and psychosocialdomains. Because of the changing health landscape in whichimproved treatments enable people in palliative care to live longer, albeit often with impaired function, and the benefits of palliationextending beyond a cancer diagnosis, there are increasing numbersof physiotherapists involved with people who are facing end-oflife issues. Therefore, this resource is timely and invaluable.
