This paper proposes a fuzzy control strategy for both stand-alone and grid-connected operations of a diesel generating set (GS). The GS fuzzy controller designed for stand-alone operation is presented first, followed by the fuzzy approach for grid-connected operation, in which the terminal voltage and reactive power controllers are coordinated to reduce the reactive power exchange with the IEEE Standard 1547 model grid. Simulations results show the efficiency of the proposed fuzzy control strategy in reducing terminal voltage oscillations and in providing a power factor closer to unity.
