摘要

John Dewey had a profound influence on education and philosophy in the 20th century. The textured and nuanced quotation from him above makes the bold assertion that we all have biases, and challenges us in the broader context of his philosophy to adopt a pragmatism toward being as objective as possible, even while realizing that being impartial is itself a biased proposition. I used my favorite quotation from Dewey as a launching point to discuss how consultants may reveal biases in their approach to dental associates making a transition to a practice ownership position. Issues related to associateships and practice purchase have been discussed in this journal and other sources.
