Apomixis and sexuality in diploid and trisomic Potentilia argentea L.

Five trisomic types were obtained from a facultatively apomictic Potentilla argentea diploid, which gives rise to totally sexual autotetraploids and autotriploids. The different types are constant and morphologically well separated. They are probably primary trisomics, but are difficult to distinguish cytologically.Reciprocal crosses between diploids and various trisomic types show that sexual reproduction prevails in trisomics. Transmission of the extra chromosomes has been demonstrated for all five types, both on the female and — to a lower degree — on the male side.
