A significant number of public complaints, in some areas of the Région PACA, are due to bad smells. An odors monitoring network has been set up in the Région PACA since 2001. This network is managed by Air PACA. It evaluates odors nuisances by the mean of: 1) recording and listing of public complaints, 2) organizing odor observations campaigns with groups of volunteers from the nearby residents. Data coming from these observations are combined with the weather parameters to find odor sources which causes the observed nuisances. This is made possible by using an investigation tool named Odotrace.
