ThisstudywasdesignedtoinvestigateeffectsofbioconvertingcocoapodhuskwithPhanerochaetechrysosporiumandorPleurotusostreatusonitsnutrientcontentsandin-vitrodigestibilityinruminants.Driedandgroundcocoapodhuskwasmixedwithricebran,nbsp;CaCO3,andureaandsterilizedbyautoclaving.SterilizedcocoapodhuskwasinnoculatedthenwithP.chrysosporium(0,4,or8mg/kg)andorP.ostreatus(0,15,or30mg/kg)ina3x3factorialexperimentaldesignresultinginninetreatmentcombinations,eachofwhichwasreplicatedthreetimes.Thefungiwereallowedtofermentthecocoapodhuskandthiswasfollowedwithproximateandfibreanalysesonthecocoapodhusktoassesschangesinitsnutrientsduetofermentation.Anin-vitrodigestibilityteststudywasalsodonetoinvestigateeffectsofthefermentationonthedigestibilityinruminantsdigestivetracts.Resultsindicatedthatthefungididnotchangedrymatterororganicmattercontentsofthecocoapodhusk.Eitherfungiincreasedcrudeproteincontentofthecocoapodhusk,andbothmicroorganismsactedsinergeticallytoreducethatofcrudefibre.Aninteractioneffectwasalsofoundinthereductionofneutraldetergentfibreandlignincontentofthecocoapodhusk,butthehighestreductionwasfoundforthehighestinclusionlevelsofthefungiinthisstudy.Similarly,thehighestcombinationlevelsofP.chrysosporiumandP.ostreatusinfermentingcocoapodhusktestedinthisstudyproducedthehighestin-vitrodigestibility.
