SURVIVAL AND MORTALITY OF PRODUCTIVE ACTIVITIES IN LOW INCOME SECTORSOBREVIVENCIA Y MORTALIDAD DE LAS ACTIVIDADES PRODUCTIVAS EN EL SEGMENTO DE BAJA RENTA

The informal sector, concentrated in low-income communities, has become increasingly important in Brazil and in the world. Its logic, however, remains poorly understood. A relevant topic concerns the survival and mortality of these enterprises. The current studies on this subject are based, exclusively, on the analysis of legally constituted and registered enterprises. The present article searches for the factors underlying the survival and the mortality of the informal microfirms. For this, a analytical model was created, adapted to this sector, based on three pillars (owner, business, environment). The model was successfully tested with four microfirms (two active and two extinct). The results show that the sector are, in fact, endowed with a peculiar dynamics and a logic, requiring review of some analytical concepts and also, new researches.
