AnexperimentwasconductedtoevaluatetheeffectsofinclusionofCatfish(Pangasiushypophthalmus)by-productproteinhydrolysate(CPH)and#946;-glucanproducedfrombrewer#8217;syeastcell(BG)indietsontheperformanceandhealthstatusofweanedpiglets.Atotalof48crossbredcastrated(YorkshirexLandrace)malepiglets(8.0±1.5kg/piglet)atweaningwereallocatedtofourtreatmentgroupsinarandomizedcompleteblockdesign.Ineachgroup,thepigletsweredividedrandomlyinto4pens(replicates)with3pigletsperpen.Thecontroldietcontainedmarinefishmeal(FM)asthesoleproteinsupplement(FMD),andtheexperimentaldietsconsistedofthreedifferentdiets,inwhich100%crudeprotein(CP)fromFMintheFMDwasreplacedbytheCPfromCPH(CPHD)withoutany#946;-glucanproduct,andwithcommercial#946;-glucan(CPHCB)or#946;-glucanproducedfrombrewer#8217;syeastcell(CPHBG)at0.1%.Averagedailygain(ADG)washighestinCPHBG;thelowestwasinFMD.FeedconsumptionwaslowestinCPHDandhighestinFMD.Feedconversionratio(FCR)waspoorestinFMDandsimilarintheotherthreediets.Pigletsfeddietswith#946;-glucanfrombrewer#8217;syeastcellproductandcommercial#946;-glucanwerelessaffectedbydiarrhoeaandhadlessE.coliinfecesthanpigletsfedtheFMDdiet.Thecost/gainwaslowestinpigletsfedCPHBGandhighestinFMD.Inconclusion,itwasbesttocombinethecatfishby-productproteinhydrolysateand#946;-glucanfrombrewer#8217;syeastcellindietsforweanedpiglets,resultinginimprovedaveragedailygainandfeedconversionratio,andreduceddiarrhoeaincidence,fecalscoreandE.coliinfeces.
